Biographical History
Legislator and state highway engineer; Maddock came to Arizona in 1898 and was elected to the legislature from Coconino County in 1912. He became highway engineer in 1917, served as a member of the Colorado River Commission, and then was general manager of the Gila Valley Irrigation District at Safford from 1939 to 1967. He was state chairman of the Arizona Republican Party and ran unsuccessful campaigns for senator and governor in the 1920s.
Born in Roanoke, Virginia in 1882, Thomas Maddock came to Arizona in 1898 from Newcastle, Pennsylvania. A Republican from Coconino County, he was elected to the first Arizona Legislature and later served as Secretary and State Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party. He served as Arizona State Highway Engineer from 1917 to 1922 and was a member of the Colorado River Commission from 1923 to 1928. He also served as an engineer and general manager of the Gila Valley Irrigation District at Safford from 1939 until his retirement in 1967. Thomas Maddock died in Phoenix in 1971.
