Biographical History
U.S. Ambassador.
Theodore C. Achilles was born in 1905. He served as Foreign Service officer, U.S. Department of State, 1931 to 1962. In addition, he served in the following capacities: 1st sec., American Embassy in London, 1945, and American Embassy in Brussels, 1946; director for Western European Affairs, Department of State, 1947; U.S. vice deputy, North Atlantic Council, London, 1950, and minister at Paris, 1952; attended the UN Conference on International Organization, San Francisco, 1945; Council of Foreign Ministers, London, 1945; first session of the UN General Assembly, London, 1946, 2nd session of the UN General Assembly, New York, 1947; Paris Conference, 1946; North Atlantic Pact negotiations, 1948 to 1949; North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), 1950, 1952, and 1960; and CENTO, SEATO, and Colombo Plan Conferences, 1960. Achilles also served as Ambassador to Peru, 1956 to 1960. He died in 1986.
