Biographical History

The Union Carbide Corporation traces its roots to the 1880s and 90s, with the founding of the National Carbon Company and the Willson Aluminum Company. After several mergers, takeovers, and name changes, the name Union Carbide Corporation was adopted in 1967. Throughout its multi-faceted history, the corporation has been involved in the research and production of numerous chemical products, including cleaners, adhesives, paint, personal care items, polyester fibers and many more. UCC was also involved in nuclear programs and coal hydrogenation projects. The Corporation now exists as a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company.
