Biographical History
The W3YA Amateur Radio Club was founded at Penn State in 1967 to facilitate an exchange of technical information between members as well as to improve members' knowledge of radio and electronics to better the proficiency of radio operating. Students, faculty members, and alumni were granted membership. The club's origination was inspired by a previous on-campus amateur radio station, W3YA, in operation from 1909 but removed in the 1960s.
