Biographical History
Dean S. Fleming was a soldier who served during WWII. Fleming was born in 1921 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and interned at Kiefer Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. In 1938, he returned to Minneapolis with the Minnesota State Health Department as an epidemiologist. In 1940, he went to the Harvard School of Public Health where he was recruited for the American Red Cross - Harvard Field Hospital Unit which was then sent to England. After the United States (U.S.) entered WWII, he entered the Medical Corps as a Special Army Observer in the U.S. Embassy in London. He ended the war as part of the occupation troops in Bavaria.
