English translator and writer.
Sarah Austin (1793-1867) was an English writer and translator, and the wife of jurist John Austin. She urged the establishment in England of a national system of education and is best known for her work Germany from 1760 to 1814, a survey of German institutions and manners.
Sarah Austin was an English author, and a significant translator of important German works into English. Her husband, John, was a major figure in English legal thought, and the Austins were notable members of Victorian society and intelligentsia.
