Biographical History

Charles Francis Aiken was born in Boston on April 8, 1863 and died there on July 8, 1925. He attended grammar and high school in Sommerville and higher education brought him to Harvard, St. John's Seminary (Brighton, Mass.), and Catholic University. He taught Classics at the Heathcote School of Buffalo, 1884-1886, and was ordained a priest in 1890. He began a teaching career at the Catholic University of America in 1897 where he served as an instructor, 1897-1900, assistant professor, 1900-1906, and ordinary professor of apologetics, 1906-1924. He became dean of the faculty of theology, 1909-1913, and contributed to many scholarly journals including American Ecclesiastical Review, American Catholic Quarterly Review, and Catholic World.
