Biographical History

The Brooklyn Jewish Center, a model synagogue center, was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1919. Its founding rabbi was Israel Levinthal who remained in the position until 1954. The Center's building on Eastern Parkway housed a health club, kosher restaurant, and education programs for children and adults. After a period of vitality lasting from the 1920s through the late 1940s, the Center entered a period of decline.
