Biographical History
Calvin Fletcher (1897-1866) was a state senator, lawyer, businessman, and farmer. He was elected prosecuting attorney for the Marion County Circuit Court in 1821, and served as state senator from 1825-1833. Fletcher was appointed director of the State Bank in 1834 and later organized the Indianapolis Branch Banking Co., also known as the Fletcher and Sharpe Bank. Fletcher's other business interests included land speculation, railroads, and agriculture. He was involved in the establishment of a free school system, and was a member of the Indianapolis Benevolent Society, the Indiana Historical Society, and other groups. Fletcher was married to Sarah Hill (1801-1854) and Keziah Price Lister.
