Stambaugh, Lynn U. (Lynn Upshaw), 1890-1971

Lynn Upshaw Stambaugh graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1913 with an L.L.B. degree. He represented the fourth generation of his family to practice law. He worked for two years in Fargo, North Dakota as a notary public, salesman, and deputy clerk of the Fargo District Court. In 1915, he married Enid Erickson. That same year he joined the law firm of Pierce, Tenneson, Cupler, and Stambaugh where he remained until 1945. Stambaugh also served in the Army for two years during World War I, attaining the rank of second lieutenant. After the war, he joined the American Legion and served as the Fargo Post Commander in 1931. In 1941, the Legion elected him National Commander. In 1945, President Truman appointed Stambaugh first Vice-President of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. He held this position until 1960, when he left to serve as the Washington representative of a Phoenix law firm. Lynn Stambaugh died May 27, 1971.
