Biographical History

Summitville Tiles, Inc. of Summitville, Columbiana County, Ohio, was founded in 1912 as the Summit Brick Co. In 1920, F. H. Johnson converted operations to the manufacturing of face brick. The company flourished and became well known for their deep red bricks called "Summitville Reds." In 1947, F. H. Johnson's two sons Fred and Pete took over the company and renamed it Summitville Tiles. They began producing quarry tiles in various shapes and colors. In the mid 1980s, the third generation, brothers Bruce and Dave, took over the company. Summitville Tiles, Inc. is one of the nation's oldest continually-operating tile companies.
