Biographical History

Harold Strandberg was born in Alaska. He studied geology and mining at the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines and graduated in 1931. He worked as a placer miner with his father and three brothers at Cripple Creek, Folger, Candle, Manley Hot Springs, and at Goodnews Bay. He became vice-president and scretary of Strandberg and Sons, Inc., a mining corporation (later renamed Strandberg Mines, Inc.), in 1937. Harold Strandberg was the Anchorage port commissioner (1955-1964); he served in the Alaska House of Representatives for two terms, after which he was appointed commissioner of public works (1968), becoming deputy commissioner in 1971.
