Biographical History

Vereen Bell graduated from Davidson College in 1932. In Louisiana, he studied writing under the guidance of Mr. Fred Litten. He was editor of "American Boy" magazine for two years, then became a free-lance writer. He has written two novels, "Swamp Water" and "Two of a Kind," and numerous short stories, many published in magazines. He died in 1944. In his memory, Bell's college roommate, Mr. D. Grier Martin, established the Vereen Bell Award for creative writing at Davidson College in 1947.
