Biographical History

Arnold Friedman (1927-2008) was a Holocaust survivor born in Irsava, Czechoslovakia. He immigrated to the United States in 1948 and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. He owned and operated Arnold's Scrap Metals for over forty years on the east side of Cleveland. He and his wife Betty had three children, Sharon, Doreen, and Jeff. In 1972 he published Death Was Our Destiny, an account of his time in the concentration camps of Auschwitz, Dornhau, Seifenwasser, and Flossenburg. He spoke often of his experiences to school, church, and youth groups.
