Biographical History

The Botanical Seminar was originated in 1886 by seven students, including Roscoe Pound, J.G. Smith, J.R. Schofield, H.J. Webber and J.A. Williams. Between 1891-1899 a botanical survey of Nebraska was undertaken, and the Flora of Nebraska was published. Professor Charles E. Bessey provided guidance to the Seminar until his death in 1915. At that time, Professor Raymond J. Pool took over as director of the group. The Botanical Seminar went out of existence in the late 1930s.
