Biographical History

Francis Eppes was the grandson of Thomas Jefferson and a long-time resident of Tallahassee, FL; he came to Florida in the 1820's and served as mayor of the city and head of the Seminary West of the Suwannee, which eventually became Florida State College for Women and later Florida State University.
