Mark Podwal is an award winning artist and illustrator (b. 8 June 1945) who is a clinical associate professor of dermatology at New York University and an associate attending physician at Tisch University Hospital and Bellevue Hospital.

Mark Podwal was born 8 June 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Milton (a restaurant owner) and Dorothy (a homemaker) Podwal. He attended Queens College of the City University of New York (B.A., 1967) and New York University (M.D., 1970).

Dr. Podwal is a clinical associate professor of dermatology (1974-) at New York University and an associate attending physician at Tisch University Hospital (1974-) and Bellevue Hospital (1974-). As an artist and illustrator, Dr. Podwal has had solo and group exhibitions across the United States. His illustrations are represented in many permanent collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Israel Museum, Library of Congress, Skirball Museum, and New York City's Jewish Museum . Dr. Podwal also serves as a member of Committee on Collections and Acquisitions and Committee on Art in Public Spaces for the U.S. Memorial Holocaust Museum .

His awards include the Award of Excellence (1989), Society of Newspaper Design, for a drawing in the New York Times ; decorated chevalier (1993), French Order of Arts and Letters ; Sidney Taylor Award Honor Book, Association of Jewish Libraries, for Dybbuk (1996) and for You Never Know (1998); Aesop Prize (1999), American Folklore Society, Silver Medal (1999), Society of Illustrators both for King Solomon and His Magic Ring ; Washington Irving Children's Choice Award Honor Book (2000), Westchester Library Association, for You Never Know
