Biographical History

Originally a glass-polisher; a pupil of Muḥammad ibn Yazīd al-Mubarrad (d. 898); became a noted grammarian; eventually became tutor to Abbasid caliph al-Muʻtaḍid bi-Allāh (d. 902).
