Biographical History
Donald Wesley Wulzen, Flag rank officer, was born in Hamilton, Ohio in 1912. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1935 and retired from the Navy in 1969. He served in major campaigns in the Pacific Theater during World War II, including the Kwajalein campaign and Okinawa and was CO of USS Porterfield. He graduated from the Naval War College in 1951 and served on the staff from 1958-1960. In 1961, he was Chief of Staff to CO, Amphibious Force, Pacific Fleet and in 1963 was selected for rear admiral. He was CO of the Amphibious Force, Seventh Fleet and landed the first combat troops in Vietnam in 1965. He was Deputy Director for Inspection Services in the office of the Secretary of Defense prior to his retirement.
Don Wesley Wulzen was born January 4, 1912, in Hamilton, Ohio. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1935, and advanced to the rank of rear admiral in 1963. He commanded Amphibious Group 1 from 1964 to 1967, and retired in 1969. Wulzen died on December 11, 1996, in San Marcos, California.
