Hartson, Louis Dunton, 1885-1977.

Louis Dunton Hartson was born in Anamosa, Iowa, on November 24, 1885. He received a Ph. B. from Grinnell College in 1908, a Pd. M. from New York University in 1909, and a Ph. D from Clark University in 1911. After teaching psychology at Grinnell College from 1911 to 1923, he joined the Oberlin College Faculty. While at Oberlin he served as chair of the Psychology Department from 1939 until his retirement in 1952. Following his retirement from Oberlin College, he taught at the Ohio State University (1952-54) and Gustavus Adolphus College (1954-58). Dr. Hartson's main area of psychological research was in the development and administration of intelligence tests. He is one of a group of psychologists credited with determining the course of an independent American psychological thought. He married Mary Reed (1887-1971) in 1914. Louis Hartson died in Oberlin, Ohio, on December 4, 1977.
