Biographical History

Francois Didier Petit de Villers (1761-1841) was a French aristocrat who lived in Santo Domingo, Haiti. He fled Haiti in fear of slave uprisings and was naturalized as an American citizen in Baltimore, Maryland in 1796. He arrived in Savannah, Georgia, in approximately 1803, where he began to work as a commission merchant and factor. He was known as Petit and became a good friend to many of Savannah's prominent citizens. De Villers died in 1841 and is buried in Colonial Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
