Biographical History
Ellis W. Williamson was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. He was born in Raeford, North Carolina, on June 12, 1918; entered military service as a private in the 120th Infantry Regiment Band, 30th Division, North Carolina National Guard in 1936; was commissioned a second lieutenant in March 1941; and served in five campaigns throughout WWII. Williamson later served in Korea as a staff officer; commanded the 13th Infantry Regiment at Fort Carson and West Germany; commanded the 173rd Airborne Brigade (Separate) in Vietnam (1965-1966); commanded the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam (1968-1969); and served as commander of the Military Assistance and Advisory Group (MAAG) in Iran (1971-1973). In retirement, Williamson was involved in the 173rd Airborne Brigade Association and in promoting the development of the Airborne/Special Operations Museum.
