Olivet Baptist was known as the world's largest Protestant congregation during the pastorates of Dr. L. K. Williams and Dr. J. H. Jackson, who also served as presidents of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. (NBC), which was known as the world's largest organization of African Americans. Jackson was an outspoken conservative leader during the civil rights movement of the 1960s and while president of NBC (1953-1982).
