Biographical History
American teacher and author; second wife of Louis Agassiz.
Educator. Administered the Agassiz School for Girls from 1855 to 1859; in 1879 was one of the managers for Private Collegiate Instruction for Women (Harvard Annex); president of the Society for the Collegiate Instruction of Women in 1882; and first president of Radcliffe College from 1894 to 1903. Married the Swiss naturalist Louis Agassiz in 1850.
First president of Radcliffe College. Married Louis Agassiz.
Educator and college president. Administered the Agassiz School for Girls, 1855-1859. Manager of the program for Private Collegiate Instruction for Women (also known as Harvard Annex); president of the Society for the Collegiate Instruction for Women (1882-1894), first president of Radcliffe College (1894-99) and honorary president (1899-1903).
Negotiated permanent institutional tie with Harvard and the incorporation of Radcliffe in 1894; raised funds for endowment and purchase of Radcliffe yard and Radcliffe quadrangle. Funds for Agassiz House, named in her honor, were raised largely by the Agassiz family. Married the Swiss naturalist Louis Agassiz in 1850.
