Biographical History

Colonel Stuart Wood was an officer in the United States Army. He was born on 3 February 1906 in North Carolina. He attended the United States Military Academy and graduated in the class of 1927. Prior to World War II, Wood who was fluent in the Japanese language served as an Army attacheĢ in Japan. He had the misfortune to be evacuated to the Philippines for surgery immediately prior to the outbreak of the war. After the islands were attacked on 8 December 1941, Wood served as the G-2 (Chief Intelligence Officer) for United States Forces. When United States Forces surrendered to Japan, Wood became a prisoner of war. At the end of the war, Wood was released and eventually retired from the military. Wood died in Fayette, North Carolina on 1 August 1993.
