Biographical History

The Smith College School for Social Work was initially established as an experiment in the summer of 1918 to prepare social workers for the impending emergencies of World War I. The School became a permanent program of the College in 1919. It was originally known as the Training School for Social Work, but by 1924 it was known by its present name.
