Biographical History
Short line railroad based in Massie's Mill, Va., originally built, 1914-1916, to haul chesnut timber for the Leftwich Timber Company and the Tye River Timber Company to the Southern Railway. After the chestnut blight ended lumbering the railroad hauled freight for Southern Mineral Products Corporation which manufactured tintanium dioxide pigment, and the Riverton Lime and Stone Company and the International Mineral and Chemical Company both of which mined aplite.
