The Haiku Society of America was founded by Harold G. Henderson and Leroy Kanterman in 1968. This nonprofit organization promotes English language haiku and is open to all who appreciate this form.
The American Haiku Archives at the California State Library was founded on July 12, 1996, the brainchild of State Librarian Kevin Starr and haiku poet Jerry Kilbride. It is the largest public haiku collection outside Japan. This archive serves as a repository for the Haiku Society of America, and also contains material from other sources.
