The Town of Cazenovia, New York was named for Theophilus Cazenove, the general agent for the Holland Land Company, a stock company of Dutch business concerns. John (Jan) Lincklaen was in charge of selling the Holland Land Company properties in the Cazenovia area to individuals. The surveyor, Enos Cushing (ca. 1779-1866) settled in Cazenovia, New York in 1815.
Enos Cushing, son of Thomas Cushing of Hingham, Suffolk, Mass., was a surveyor with the Holland Land Company in western New York in 1814. He is described as a teacher, civil engineer, surveyor, farmer.
