Gubler, Clark J., 1913-....

Emeritus professor of chemistry at Brigham Young University.

Clark J. Gubler was born July 14, 1913, in LaVerkin, Utah, to Henry W. Gubler and Susanna Pickett Gubler. He served an LDS mission to Germany in 1934-1936. He married Maurine Kjar Gubler on September 21, 1939; they had four children together. He received his A.B. from BYU in 1939 in Chemistry, his M.S. from Utah State University in 1941 in Biochemistry, and his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley in 1945 in Biochemistry. He was an internationally known chemist and professor at BYU from 1958-1978. During this time he was awarded more than a million dollars to finance his research, including from organizations such as the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health. Beyond his work at BYU, Gubler also spent ten years researching the biochemistry of iron and copper at the University of Utah Medical School. He did post-doctorate research for two years at the University of Wisconsin Enzyme Institute and was a visiting professor for a year at both the University of Freiburg, Germany, and the University of California at San Diego. He heavily researched thiamin (vitamin B) in biochemistry. His research and presentations took him all over the world, including Russia, Germany, Japan, and England.
