Biographical History
The Massachusetts Society for Promoting Agriculture was founded in 1792, one of several local agricultural societies established in Massachusetts in the late 18th and early 19th centuries for the purpose of promoting and collecting knowledge about local agricultural practices. In 1814, the group posed a list of questions to the Danvers Agricultural Society regarding farming practices and production in Danvers, Massachusetts. The Danvers Agricultural Society consulted local farmers and Corresponding Secretary Andrew Nichols compiled their answers in a formal response dated January 14, 1815.
