John S. Chandler (b. 1916, Roundup, Mont.-d. Sept. 30, 1986), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from West Point and completed flying school in 1943. He was assigned to the 15th Air Force in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations and also served as operations officer for the 747th Squadron and commander of the 745th Squadron of the 456th Bombardment Group. After the War, he attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology, studying electrical engineering, and received a master's degree in electronics and instrumentation from the University of Michigan in 1952. General Chandler then served as a weapons systems project officer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and later as Chief of the Bomarc missile office. During a seven-year assignment at the Ballistic Missile Division, he worked on various projects including the Titan Airborne Systems and the Minuteman and Atlas projects. In the 1960s he served in a number of key positions at Andrews Air Force Base, including commander of the 1001st Air Base Wing in 1965 and 1966. His last assignment was as commander of the Defense Contract Administration Services Region, Defense Supply Agency, Los Angeles, from August 1970 until his retirement in December 1972.
