Biographical History

The Banque Territoriale (Paris, France) was organized by Jacques Annibal Ferrières in 1798 as a land bank to issue loans with real estate as security. Du Pont de Nemours was a regent, and his friend Laffon de Ladebat was its director general. The bank failed in 1803 and Du Pont de Nemours was named president of the intermediary commission to make arrangements between stockholders and creditors. He was subsequently a regent of the succeeding firm of Chavagnac et Cie.
