Biographical History
Jane Levington Sturtzel (1903-1996) and Howard Allison Sturtzel (1894-1985) were American authors of children's books under the names Jane and Paul Annixter. Many of their books focussed on wildlife and outdoor adventures.
Jane Annixter was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 22, 1903. Her father, also a writer, introduced her to writing at an early age. Her father influenced the commonplace objects subjects of her early writings, and later of assigned readings that allowed written expression and reading to become an important part of her life. Although her true name is Jane Levington Comfort, she married Paul Annixter, which provided the pseudonym Annixter. Her works can also be found under her maiden name of Jane Levington Comfort. She died on January 13, 1996.
Paul Annixter was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 25, 1894. He married Jane Levington Comfort on February 18, 1920. Paul Annixter is actually Howard Allison Sturtzel, and he wrote many books before marrying--but is most known for his works with his wife. His interests included gardening, reading, and mountain climbing. He died in November of 1985.
