Biographical History
Educator in social work and social studies, founder and Director of Delhi School of Social Work, consultant on social work education, social science researcher, traveler, YWCA official.
Born December 6, 1889, Carleton, MI. Graduated Oberlin College, 1912. Directed social services, U.S. Children's Bureau, and employed by U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1917-19. Founded and directed the International Institute in Detroit which was established by the YWCA for recent immigrants, 1919-23. Received M.A. in International Law and Relations from Columbia, 1927. Taught social studies at Lincoln School, Columbia University, 1927-46. Founded and directed Delhi School of Social Work under the auspices of the YWCA in India, 1946-49. Awarded Fulbright Scholarship to Cairo where she served as consultant in social work training to the Cairo School of Social Work, 1950-51. Worked as consultant for American Council of Voluntary Agencies for Foreign Service, 1951-52. Served as delegate for Pan-Pacific and South East Asia Women's Association and was UN consultant for the Australian Council of Women, 1964-65. Died October 31, 1987, Sarasota, Florida.
