Biographical History
The American Society of Agronomy (ASA) is an international scientific society dedicated to conservation and the wise use of land and natural resources to produce agricultural products for food and industrial consumption. ASA works closely with the Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) and the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA), sharing a headquarters and staff in Madison, Wisconsin. ASA serves its members through certification programs, honors and awards, meetings, placement services, publications, and student activities.
The American Society of Agronomy was established on 31 December 1907, at a meeting held at the University of Chicago. At that first meeting, bylaws and a constitution were adopted and executive officers were elected. The first scientific meeting was held the following day, 1 January 1908, and ten papers were presented. Since then the Society has grown into a prominent international scientific society providing a variety of educational offerings to its worldwide membership.
