Biographical History
In 1921 the United Methodist Church creates the Wesleyan Service Guild for Methodist Episcopal women employed outside the home. In 1939 various women's home and foreign missionary societies become the Woman's Society of Christian Service. The Wesleyan Service Guild remains a separate organization. In 1968 the women's organizations are merged as the Women's Society of Christian Service and the Wesleyan Service Guild. In 1972 the Women's Society of Christian Service and the Wesleyan Service Guild are united to form United Methodist Women.
