Abraham I. Melden was an author, academic, and philosopher known for his work on ethical theory and applied ethics.
He was born in 1910 and studied philosophy at the University of California, Los Angeles and Brown University. He earned his Ph. D. at the University of California, Berkeley in 1938. Melden was Professor of Philosophy at Berkeley and the University of Washington before joining the faculty at the University of California, Irvine in 1964 as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Philosophy. He wrote several books on philosophical issues, including ethics, and civil and human rights. Melden died in 1991.
