Jenkins, Reuben E. (Reuben Ellis), 1896-1975

Reuben Ellis Jenkins (b. Feb. 14, 1896, Cartersville, Ga.-d. July 29, 1975), U.S. Army officer, was commissioned in the infantry in 1918. He served with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I and in China with the 15th Infantry from 1928 to 1931. He was assigned duty with the Allied Force Headquarters in North Africa; was assistant chief of staff for operations, Sixth Army Group; and served with Army Ground Forces during World War II. He was director of the Joint U.S. Military Advancement and Planning Group in Athens from 1948 to 1951, and commanding general of IX and X Corps during the Korean War. He retired in 1954.

During the 1920s, he was assigned to the 24th, 29th, 15th, and 8th Infantry Regiments. Jenkins attended various Army schools and had a staff position in the War Department Personnel Office during the 1930s. In WWII, he held a staff position at Allied Force Headquarters, North Africa and then with the Sixth (6th) Army Group in France. After the war, he continued in staff positions until 1948 when he went to Athens with the Joint U.S. Military Advisory and Planning Group. He was appointed Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations in 1951. During the Korean War, Jenkins was commanding general of the IX (9th) Corps and the X (10th) Corps. He retired from military service in 1954.
