Biographical History

Yolanda Alaniz was born on 11 March 1950 and raised in the Yakima Valley of eastern Washington. She became involved in the labor movement as an employee at the University of Washington where she was one of the founders of the Staff Rights Organizing Committee (SROC). She has also been a member of the Freedom Socialist Party, United Workers Organization, and National Hispanic Feminist Conference, among other Seattle, Washington, and national organizations. Alaniz has written on the Chicano movement and women's rights.
