Biographical History
Born in Urbana, Ill., Nov. 19, 1869. Worked for a newspaper there before attending the U. of M. law school. Came to Detroit in 1891. After graduation became an instructor at Sprague Correspondence School of Law in Detroit, became president of it in 1908. Vice-pres. of the Collector Publishing Co., which became Sprague Publishing Co., when he and William C. Sprague established The American Boy Magazine of which he was editor-in-chief. He was Appointed to the street Railway Commission by Mayor Couzens in 1920 and elected president of it from 1921-1929. He was vice President & Pres. of the Win. A. Scripps Co., a real estate firm, assoc. ed. of the American Legal News. Married Ellen Winifred Scripps, niece of James E. Scripps, in 1897. He died in Pasadena, California, Feb. 2, 1948.
