Biographical History
Originally composed for two pianos, 1912; this version 1931. Won First Prize and awarded a nationwide broadcast in the National Federation of Music Clubs Competition, 1939. First performance in a broadcast by the CBS Orchestra, New York, May 28, 1939, Howard Barlow conducting, Karl Ulrich Schnabel and Helen Fogel soloists.--Cf. Fleisher Collection.
Commissioned by Stuart Walker for his Portmanteau Theatre, 1917. Originally composed for harp, violin and cello as preludes to the four acts of Lord Dunsany's play. Orchestrated 1929; first performance Minneapolis, 13 December 1929, the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, Henri Verbrugghen conductor.--Cf. Fleisher Collection.

Arthur Farwell was an American composer, music educator, and publisher.
Commissioned by Kimball Union Academy, Meriden, N.H., 1913. Composed 1913. First performance Meriden, N.H., June 24, 1913 by an orchestra especially organized for the Pageant of Meriden, the composer conducting.
