Biographical History

Agriculturalist, pastoralist, pearler and Perth business man. Farmed at Beverley until 20 years old; explored east of Avon to Yilgarn in 1861 and 1864 with Clarkson, Dempster and Lukin; to N.W. 1866, pearling with Sam Viveash 1867, partner in De Grey station 1871-1878; built "Woodbridge", at Guildford 1855; became part-owner of "West Australian" 1879; established Guildford Grammar School; MLC (1878-1895).
