Biographical History

Weiner, Edrich, Brown, Inc., a futurologists' consulting group, was founded in New York City in 1977. Two of the principals, Edith Weiner and Arnold Brown, had met while working on the Trend Analysis Program of the Institute of Life Insurance. This program, one of the first formal attempts to plot future social trends for industry, had begun in 1971 in response to the turmoil of the 1960s and the threat of nationalized health insurance. Edith Weiner assumed the day-to-day direction of the program from Brown in 1972 at the age of 23.

When the Institute of Life Insurance moved to Washington, D.C., in 1977, Brown and Weiner formed their own firm and continued to perform the same sort of trend analysis for a variety of clients. They also authored SUPERMANAGING (1984) and OFFICE BIOLOGY (1993).
