Biographical History

Lawyer in New York; son of Samuel Dodge and Mary Forbes Dodge, but orphaned at age 12 and adopted and educated by his Aunt Martha Forbes. According to his journal, he played both flute and violin. He later married Jane Dey Varick, whose virtues are extolled in his journal. Became a Col. in the War of 1812.
