Biographical History

John Moyr Smith was the editor and illustrator for THE TRAGEDIE OF MACBETH (London : Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington ..., 1889), for which he created this tile to complement the book as an example of the cross-fertilization of the book-arts and other decorative arts in Victorian Britain. The artist is best known as a designer for the tile manufacturer, Minton. His work for Minton included a Shakespeare range with characters from several plays including Macbeth.

From the description of Tile portraying Shakespeare's Macbeth, act 5, scene 7 / John Moyr Smith, 1889. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 754865993
