Biographical History

The John Breathitt that kept this journal is most likely the sameperson who became Kentucky's governor in 1832. His death in 1834 made him the second of the Commonweath's governors to die in office. Born in Virginia in 1786, his family moved to Logan County (part of which became Christian County), Kentucky, around 1800. It was here that Breathitt learned surveying and read law with Caleb Wallace.

From the description of John Breathitt's memorandum book : diary, 1804-1805. (Kentucky Historical Society). WorldCat record id: 36006132
