Aimar, C. P. (Charles Pons), 1873-1927.

Charles Pons Aimar, Jr. was born in Charleston in 1873. His father and uncle owned the Aimar Drug Company. He graduated from the Medical College of the State of South Carolina in 1894, and became an intern at the St. Francis Xavier Infirmary. At the same time, Dr. Aimar also provided his services to the Plant System of Rail Ways Relief and Hospital Department (which later merged with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company). Dr. Aimar lectured at the Medical College of the State of South Carolina on subjects such as materia medica, surgery, and surgical pathology, and in 1913 became the school's Chair of General Surgery. He became the head surgeon at St. Francis Xavier Infirmary in 1911. Dr. Aimar held these three positions until his death in 1927. He also served on the board of trustees of the Shirras Dispensary. Active in many organizations, Dr. Aimar was a fellow of the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, and the Medical Society of South Carolina. He was a delegate to the Pharmacopoeial Conventions of both 1900 and 1910, and introduced bone grafting and the use of the metric system in prescriptions to Charleston. Nature and wildlife were personal interests of Dr. Aimar's. He belonged to the Audubon Society, the Ornithological Association, and was also a hunter. Dr. Aimar was a trustee of the Charleston Museum. He married Leonarda Jaques in 1898. The couple had one daughter, Agatha. Dr. Aimar died of a heart attack on December 1, 1927.
