Biographical History
In 1935 Max Robertson travelled from England to Papua New Guinea as part of a gold prospecting team led by Jack Hides. In 1936 he took a position as a schoolmaster in Sydney, and in 1937 joined the staff of 2CH, then joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney and Brisbane as an announcer and sports commentator. He returned to England in 1939 and joined the BBC, served in the Army from September 1939 to 1946, then rejoined the BBC, specialising in tennis broadcasting. His publications include: 'The LTA book of the game'; 'Mountain panorama'; 'Going for a song'; 'English furniture; The Encyclopedia of tennis; Wimbledon 1877-1977'; 'Wimbledon - centre court of the game - Final Verdict'; 'Stop talking and give the score'; 'The Ballad of Worple Road'; and 'Once upon a rhyme'.
