Biographical History

Commander in Chief of His Majesty's Forces in the West Indies.

Abercromby was born at Menstry near Tullibody, Scotland, and after beginning a career in law enlisted in the armed forces. Abercromby quickly moved up in the ranks from lieutenant in 1760 to Commander-in-Chief in the West Indies in 1795.
